How to Degrease a Restaurant Kitchen Floor

When it comes to restaurant kitchens, one of the most important jobs is degreasing the kitchen floor. Grease and oil build up over time, creating an unsightly and hazardous environment. Not only can grease and oil cause slips and falls, but they can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. As such, it’s important to regularly degrease your restaurant kitchen floor. Here’s how you can do it quickly and efficiently.
Step 1: Prepare the Area
Before you begin degreasing, it’s important to properly prepare the area. This means moving any large appliances, furniture, or other obstructions out of the way. If you cannot move the objects, cover them with a plastic tarp. Once the area is cleared, mop the floor to remove any dirt and debris.
Step 2: Apply a Degreaser
Once the area is prepared, it’s time to apply a degreaser. There are many different types of degreasers to choose from, including detergents, acids, and solvents. Detergents are the most common type of degreaser and are typically used for light to moderate grease and oil buildup. Step 3: Rinse the Floor
Once the degreaser has had time to work, it’s time to rinse the floor. Use a mop and clean water to rinse away the degreaser. Be sure to rinse the floor thoroughly to remove all traces of the degreaser. Sometimes after rinsing you will notice that there is still some grease left on the floor. Repeat step 2 until satisfactory results.
Step 4: Dry the Floor
After you have rinsed the floor, it’s important to dry it. Use a mop or other cloth to absorb any remaining moisture. If possible, use a wet/dry vacuum to quickly and efficiently dry the floor. You can also use floor fans.
Step 5: Dispose of Waste
When you are finished degreasing the floor, it’s important to properly dispose of any waste. This includes the degreaser, rinsing water, and any other materials used during the process. Be sure to follow all local laws and regulations when disposing of waste.
